Iceland’s Most Romantic Fjords
The Travel Section of mbl.is has created a list of Iceland’s most romantic fjords. They are as follows:
Önundarfjörður fjord, the West Fjords, is beautifully surrounded by mountains. It is especially romantic in the summertime. A golden-colored sea shore and an old-fashioned pier look romantic as well. At the end of the day, a drive to the village Flateyri is ideal, where you can have dinner at the restaurant Vagninn.
Seyðisfjörður, the East Fjords, is the name of a fjord and a town, which is home to Regnbogagatan (meaning Rainbow Road), in front of Seyðisfjarðarkirkja church – a great place for a picture with your lover. There are numerous beautiful, old houses in town, renovated by experts. A hike up to Búðarárfoss waterfall offers a great view of the fjord.
Borgarfjörður eystri fjord is a remote, pristine, and romantic fjord, not to be missed. In the summertime, this is home to the music festival Bræðslan. The guesthouse Blábjörg is popular, as are its hot tubs and spa. Borgarfjörður eystri is a great place to watch puffins.
Fáskrúðsfjörður fjord, the East Fjords, is the name of a fjord and a town, sometimes dubbed the French Town, because this is where numerous French fishermen stayed during the second half of the 19th century and into the 20th. A number of buildings from that time period remain, including what used to be the French Hospital, but is now a hotel — Fosshótel Austfirðir (Fosshotel Eastfjords).
