Tröllaskagi: Skiing Paradise in North Iceland
The Tröllaskagi peninsula, North Iceland, has been a major magnet for skiers in Iceland in recent months. Icelanders used to visiting ski resorts abroad every year have had to look for skiing opportunities in their own country this year. In the process, they have discovered a true skiing paradise, namely the Tröllaskagi peninsula.
Mbl.is journalist Bjarni Helgason is among those avid skiers. He has visited the peninsula numerous times this year and is totally captivated by the landscape.
He highly recommends Sigló Hótel in Siglufjörður, which he describes as ideal for skiers of all ages and offering experience comparable to that at five-star hotels in the Austrian Alps. You can relax in the hot tub after a long day in the mountains, or take a steam bath, if you prefer.
Bjarni states the Tröllaskagi peninsula is ideal, not only for skiers, but also for mountaineers and hikers. He stresses the importance of taking good care of safety issues when hiking or skiing in the mountains.
Even in late May, it is not too late to go skiing in Tröllaskagi, but to reach the best skiing areas, you may have to carry your skis some distance on your back. The most important thing, though, is being in good company, he stresses.
