Aerial View of Eruption Which Inspires: Video

Vala Hafstað

The eruption site in Fagradalsfjall mountain, Southwest Iceland, is rapidly changing, day by day. On Tuesday, the fifth fissure opened, after which mbl.is photographer Kristinn Magnússon filmed the area with a drone from numerous angles.

You’ll be amazed to see how much the area has changed since the eruption began on March 19. Back then, it was described by a geophysicist as “such a weakling,” but the small eruption has proven a huge attraction, and it is still increasing in size.

One lava stream after another emerges, creating fascinating patterns, certain to inspire photographers, painters and fashion designers, not to mention poets and writers.

Geologists are thrilled – they compare the eruption to Christmas. They cannot imagine a greater feast. Their enthusiasm is highly contagious, and the whole nation appears to have been infected by the ‘volcano mania.’
