Breathtaking View of Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon

Vala Hafstað

You may have visited Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon and sailed between the icebergs which break off from Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. In the video above, however, you get an aerial view of the lagoon, which is spectacular.

Take a look at the video and notice the various formations of the drift ice, seen from different angles, as it moves toward the ocean. Looking closely, you’ll be able to detect all sorts of creatures, sculpted by Mother Nature.

Jökulsárlón has provided the backdrop for scenes from two James Bond films – A View to Kill and Die Another Day. In addition, scenes from Tomb Raider were filmed here, as well as ones from Batman Begins.

In the video above, neither actors nor boats block your view of the lagoon. Instead, the icebergs themselves play the main role.

The video was shot by Morgunblaðið photographer Hallur Már Hallson on a sunny day in July. He used a drone for filming, having obtained the required permit for its use from the director of Vatnajökull National Park.
