Road to Dettifoss Closed

Substantial amounts of meltwater have led to the temporary closure of road 862 toward Dettifoss waterfall in Northeast Iceland, according to the Facebook page of Vatnajökull National Park:
“Water is flowing over Road 862, leading to Dettifoss, and in Sanddalur valley, a stream, normally not present, runs under the snow. This has created life-threatening conditions and, as a result, the park director, in cooperation with the Icelandic Road Administration and the police, has closed the area to traffic.
It is unclear how long the area will remain closed, but similar conditions in the spring of 2016 resulted in closure for a day and a half.”
