The road leading to Dettifoss in North Iceland has only been accessible to superjeeps since mid January seeing as the road is only cleared twice every winter by the road administration.

According to managing director of Saga Travel  and the North Iceland marketing bureau, Baldvin Esra Einarsson, travel companies cannot ensure that tourists get to Dettifoss. Tourists that are set on seeing the waterfall have to pay a huge amount of money to access it by superjeep. Einarsson thinks it's sad that people can't see it. "I'd be disappointed if I was a tourist in North Iceland and couldn't see  it.

The north Iceland marketing board has now made demands that the road is cleared of snow on a regular basis. "Trips to Dettifoss shouldn't be difficult as we have put a lot of money into making a tarmaced road and a car park next to the waterfall," says Einarsson.
