Today is Winter Solstice
Today marks Winter Solstice, the longest day of the year when the sun rises in Reykjavik at 11:21 and sets again at 15.30. Tomorrow the days will start to shorten again which was a cause for pagan celebration in Iceland's Viking age.
The sunrise will be even later in Grímsey, the northernmost island of Iceland, where the sun rises at only 12:03.
