Storm warning for today - road closures in South East Iceland

A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Iceland Met Office for many parts of Iceland today and there will be disruption to communications in some areas. The route no.1 beneath the Eyjafjöll mountains has been closed due to the storm. This entails the road from Hvolsvöllur to Vík and from Skeiðarársandur to Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon. 

The strongest winds will be on the South and South East coast accompanied by rain or sleet. Tonight the weather will subside on the south coast but winds continue in North Iceland tomorrow. 

Anyone travelling around Iceland is urged to check road conditions and weather forecasts carefully.
