Sandstorm warning for Skeiðarársandur in South East Iceland
The Iceland Road Administration has warned of a sandstorm in Skeiðarársandur today. Travellers passing through South East Iceland should note that the winds will subside by 2 or 3 pm, but instead increase in Skaftafell and Svínafell where winds will go up to 35 m/s.
Strong winds are in many parts of Iceland today and a storm is expected beneath Vatnajökull until this evening.
A yellow weather warning has been issued for many parts of East Iceland, due to strong wind and the glacial river flood in Skaftá which is now subsiding. People are asked to check road conditions very carefully before travelling.
