Yellow weather alert for South and South West Iceland
The Iceland Meterological Office has issued a yellow weather warning for this afternoon in South and South West Iceland.
The Met Office says that the main reason for issuing the warning is that there is an outdoor festival happening in the Westman Islands where many people are staying in tents, and tents could simply blow away in such conditions unless very well secured.
"Becoming east 13-18 m/s this afternoon with light rain in the Westmanislands and south of Mýrdalsjökull-glacier. It is advised to secure items which could blow away as well as poorly pitched tents. Also, hazardous driving conditions for vehicles, and vehicles with trailers, which are susceptible to wind as gusts up to 25 m/s are expected."
