"There were some ants crawling around. It freaked me out a bit," said a passenger.

A plane from the Icelandic WOW-air company flying from Iceland to Montreal in Canada was quarantined at the airport for several hours yesterday when a great number of ants were discovered on board.

Passengers were forced to leave their bags and personal items onboard after the ants were discovered in the cabin.

This incident was reported on CBC who spoke to a passenger called Marco Lavecchia.

He was on the five-hour WOW Air flight from Reykjavik when he woke up from a nap and noticed a commotion near an overhead bin on the plane.

"There was some ants crawling around. It kind of freaked me out a little bit," he said.

When the flight landed, the captain came on the intercom to say they'd have to stay put.

"Finally, after two hours, they let us know that, 'Okay, you have to leave all your personal items on the airplane and a bus is going to pick us up to take us to the baggage check area,'" Lavecchia said.

According to the CBC the ants were not dangerous and were exterminated. When mbl.is tried to contact WOW-air on the matter this morning they were unsuccessful.
