It was a busy night for SAR teams in Iceland last night with over 100 rescue team members in 30 teams working across the country.

Dozens of cars were stuck in South Iceland and a help centre was opened in Selfoss to accommodate tourists whose cars were stranded. They are now being helped to get to Reykjavik.

Rescue teams also had to aid people stuck with their cars in snow in the West Fjords  and North Iceland. Over 30 cars were stuck in the city of Akureyri last night and police there urge people to stay put if they don't have well equipped jeeps.

The weather today is not safe for travel in all parts of Iceland.
