Vatnajökull National Park to be founded in 2020
"This could become our greatest pride and greatest contribution to nature conservation so far in history," says Minister for the Environment Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson speaking to Morgunblaðið.
The Icelandic Government has decided to set up a cross political council on the founding of a national park in the central highlands of Iceland. Among its tasks are deciding on the limits of the park and dividing up sections within the park into different conservation areas.
They are also supposed to look into points of entry and service centres within the park as well as opportunities for employment and settlement.
