Winds of 72 metres per second in Icelandic highlands
The Iceland Met Office measured wind speeds of 72 m/s in Kerlingarfjöll mountains in the central highlands last night. This is not a record but it's very close. Winds have been extremely strong in the capital area for the last few hours.
The wind measuring unit is located at the top of Ásgarðsfjall above the ski lodge.
According to the Iceland Met Office the winds will go down by noon but there are more areas of low pressure coming towards Iceland.
