Jökulsárlón becomes a protected site today
Minister for the Environment in Iceland, Björt Ólafsdóttir, will be signing a new regulation today to protect the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon and the surrounding are forming part of the Vatnajökull national park.
The signature will take place at Jökulsárlón lagoon followed by a reception at Fjallsárlón, an area which will today become part of the Vatnajökull national park.
The Icelandic government purchased the land, Fell, on which Jökulsárlón lagoon is situated earlier this year which means that the lagoon is now public property instead of private.
