Tourists to Iceland increased by 40% over the last year

In 2016, 1.767.726 tourists visited Iceland which is a 40% increase from the year 2015 when 1.261.938 tourists visited the country.  In August, the number of tourists was the same as those visiting Iceland over the entire year in 2002. 

These new figures have just been published by the Iceland Tourist Board. The amount of tourists in December have increased sixfold since December 2010 and the total number of tourist has increase tenfold since 2006. 

The largest number of tourists this past year were from the US, 415.287 people altogether.
