The first harvest of berries has hit Icelandic shops and according to berry specialist Sveinn Rúnar Hauksson, this year is a great berry year.
Laugavegur fruit and confectionary shop Vínberið received its first delivery of berries from the West Fjords on Friday. Most of the berries were prime blueberries called "aðalbláber" in Icelandic - a darker, smaller version of the blueberry. Blueberries and crowberries were also delivered to the shop but all of them sold out fast. A new delivery is expected this week.
Blueberries and crowberries grow in the wild in Iceland and are picked in August.
