Don't run over sheep!
When you spot sheep by the side of the road, slow down!
Iceland Monitor/ Árni Sæberg
Icelandic sheep roam freely during the summer which can also prove to be a problem for drivers who need to take great care. Police in Ísafjörður in the West Fjords say that two or three lambs are now run over daily.
Police urge drivers to take care and slow down when they see sheep by the side of the road. Lambs often run across the roads to their mothers. Police also say that unfortunately many drivers don't even report these incidents, leaving the animals to die a slow and painful death.
Most farmers in Iceland are insured for such accidents and drivers who have run over lambs are urged to report this immediately.
