Iceland’s cruise-ship season is getting longer with each passing year – and this year the first ship is due this Sunday, 6 March.

The MS Magellan, operated by Cruise & Maritime Voyages, is currently sailing towards Reykjavik with some 1,250 passengers, who will spend the night moored in the Icelandic capital.

According to Jóhann Bogason from Icelandic port agency service Gára, the cruise season in Iceland is steadily extending across the year, with the chance of the seeing the Northern lights in the winter months being a major pull factor.

The last cruise ship of 2015 left Iceland on 25 October.
