Goose rescued from freezing to death
A goose was found almost frozen to death outside a front door in Lækjargata in Hafnarfjörður, a town just outside Reykjavik. The bird had seemingly attemped to walk from the pond to the house to seek out the warmth.
The goose's bill was frozen shut so it couldn't feed. "She'd come there to die, I think she left the other birds so they wouldn't peck her," says Sif Sverrisdóttir who works at cat rescue centre Óskasjóður Púkarófu. This is the first time that the centre was called out because of a bird.
The goose was captured into a cage and taken to a vet. It was uninjured but near death because of the cold and extremely hungry. The bird has recovered well and has been taken to the Reykjavik Family Park and Zoo and has received the name Frostrós (Frostrose).
