WOW air eyeing Dublin as new base
Dublin is very much in the running to become Icelandic low-cost airline WOW air’s second base, CEO Skúli Mogensen has told the Irish Times.
Mogensen has previously declared that the airline is considering transferring part of its operations outside of Iceland in order to enable the airline to grow according to plan. There are worries that expansion plans at Iceland’s main international at Keflavík (KEF) are not ambitious or quick enough to keep up with the forecast increase in passenger numbers.
“Dublin is a great airport and it’s a great hub in its own right. It’s definitely a viable alternative to London for lots of reasons,” Mogensen is reported as saying.
WOW already flies from the Irish capital to Baltimore and Boston – stopping in Reykjavik. Passenger load factors on the route are reportedly around 90%.
