Heavy snow diverts jet to Akureyri
Heavy snowfall at Iceland’s Keflavík International Airport (KEF) last night caused significant delays and one diversion to the northern town of Akureyri.
Conditions were worst between 10 and 11 pm, when KEF operatives had to be deployed to clear the runway of snow.
Icelandair flight FI213 from Copenhagen was forced to circle over Keflavík for one and a half hours before finally landing just after midnight (scheduled arrival time 22:20).
WOW air flight WW815 from London Gatwick took the decision, after a considerable amount of circling, to divert to Akureyri Airport in North Iceland. Some time later, the jet was flown back to Keflavík, where it landed at 4 am this morning (scheduled arrival time 22:50 yesterday).
According to the arrivals page of the KEF Airport website, this morning’s arrivals do not seem to be experiencing major delays at this stage.
