More ways to pay for bus travel on your phone

Users of the Strætó app can from today, as well as buying single tickets, also pay for monthly passes and season tickets.
Strætó, the Icelandic bus company serving the Greater Reykjavik area, launched a new version of its smartphone app back in March, enabling passengers for the first time to pay for their travel tickets by debit or credit card.
An update today adds the possibility of paying for monthly passes and season tickets on the Strætó app. A month’s travel costs ISK 10,900 (approx. €78).
The new system for purchasing tickets on the app has been more popular than even the most optimistic expectation, with over 250,000 tickets purchased this year. Tickets bought using the app are valid for travel in the municipalities of the Greater Reykjavik area.
