High aurora activity and clears skies in many southern and western parts of Iceland could make for a good night for Northern Lights spotting.

The Icelandic Met Office runs an ongoing Aurora Forecast web page, giving a five-day overview of aurora activity and cloud cover.

The forecast at midnight tonight is for an aurora index of 5 ‘High’ on a scale of 0-9, and very little or no cloud cover in many southern and western parts of the country.

According to the IMO website, tonight will be the best opportunity all week to catch a glimpse of the magical celestial spectacle.
