Into the Glacier, the man-made ice cave located high on Iceland’s Langjökull glacier, has beaten seventeen other nominees to win the Icelandic Travel Industry Association’s 2015 award for innovation.

The annual award aims to encourage companies who are members of the Association to innovate and develop their products, and this is the twelfth year the award has been given.

Into the Glacier was presented with the award by Icelandic Minister for Industry and Trade Ragnheiður Elín Árnadóttir at a well-attended ceremony in Reykjavik yesterday. A total of eighteen nominations for this year’s prize were received.

The jury describes Into the Glacier as “highly ambitious, unique in the world, and a major boost for tourism in West Iceland and the entire country”.

Managing Director of Into the Glacier, Sigurður Skarphéðinsson, welcomed the award, saying it would motivate the company to continue to develop in an exciting way.
