Icelandair to operate US charters
Are you flying from Detroit to Mexico or the Dominican Republic this winter? If so, you may very well be travelling on an aircraft belonging to Icelandic national carrier Icelandair .
The airline has been hired to operate charter flights for Apple Vacations taking passengers direct from Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) to Mexico or the Dominican Republic on all-inclusive winter package holidays.
“Icelandair has never before flown to or from Detroit Metro Airport,” according to the Detroit Free Press .
Apple Vacations is offering flight-only or package deals from late December to early April 2016 to Cancún and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico and to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
Icelandair operates a fleet of Boeing 757-200 and 757-300 aircraft , each named after an Icelandic volcano.
It remains to be seen whether passengers from Detroit will be lucky enough to travel on Icelandair’s Boeing 757 ‘Eyjafjallajökull’, named after the famous Icelandic volcano which erupted in style in 2010 , or on the airline’s stunning ‘ Hekla Aurora ’ jet, resplendent inside and out with a Northern Lights motif.
