Hotel stays up 27% on 2014
There were a total of 253,000 overnight stays in Icelandic hotels in September this year – up 27% on September 2014.
According to Statistics Iceland, the lion’s share of this total – 89% – is accounted for by foreign visitors to Iceland. Hotel stays for foreign visitors have increased by 36%, while the number of Icelanders spending the night in a hotel in September was down 15% on the previous year.
60% of all hotel stays in September were in the Greater Reykjavik area, followed by 15% in South Iceland.
The best represented nationalities among guests in Icelandic hotels in September were the Americans (22%), the Germans (13%), and the Brits (12%).
