Wettest Reykjavik October since 2007
October was a relatively wet and warm month for Iceland, with the east and north-east seeing the best of the temperatures and the south and south-west seeing the worst of the rain.
Iceland’s capital Reykjavik was treated to a total of 159.5 mm of rain in October, according to information from the Icelandic Met Office. This is a massive 86% more than the average for 1961-90.
Rain fell in Reykjavik on every single day except one in October, the highest number of October rain days on record. Total rainfall in October has not been this high since 2007.

In many places, though, the rain came hand-in-hand with warmer temperatures.
The average October temperature in Reykjavik was 5.2°C – 0.6°C higher than the previous ten-year average – while the northern town of Akureyri saw the thermometer rise to an average 4.8°C, a whopping 1.9°C higher than the previous ten-year average.
The highest registered temperature last month was in the eastern town of Neskaupstaður on 16 October. On that day, the mercury hit 18.4°C – the highest temperature on record for anywhere in Iceland for a 16 October.
