Earthquakes in Eyrarbakki
A series of earthquakes is occurring in Ölfus, South Iceland, about five kilometres from the picturesque village of Eyrarbakki.
Over 40 small quakes have been measured in the area since yesterday, the largest measuring 2,5 on the Richter scele. According to seismologist Martin Hensch at the Iceland Met Office the earthquakes were felt in Eyrarbakki.
Asked today whether the location wasn't unusual for earthquakes he answered, "No, the earthquakes have occurred just west of a fault called Krosssprunga which also moved in the great quakes of South Iceland in 2008."
Hensch believes it's unlikely that larger earthquakes will follow. "It doesn't look like it, but it's not impossible."
