Iceland’s national newspaper Morgunblaðið is on a six-week 2015 tour of Iceland!

The paper’s journalists and photographers will be bringing us news and images of everyday life, culture, business, nature, education, services and more from the four corners of the land. Today’s destination: Borgarbyggð.

The municipality of Borgarbyggð has a total population of around 6,800. The biggest town in the municipality is Borgarnes (population: 1,875) , located 60 km north of the capital Reykjavik.

Ljómalind is a food and craft market in Borg­ar­nes, which focuses on local produce. It began life as a Christmas market as is now run a non-profit company staffed by volunteers. All products must be from West Iceland.

Set in a magnificent landscape of forests and hot springs, Hótel Húsafell is about 60 km from Borgarnes. Hótel Húsafell is an elegant 36-room four-star hotel which opened last month. It has received excellent reviews and is fully booked for the next few weeks.

Miðhraun, on the south coast of Snæfellsnes, is a family-run farm working in fish processing, sheep farming and horse-riding, to name but a few of its diverse activities. Sustainable and organic are the bywords of married couple farmers, Sigurður and Bryndís.
