80% of Icelanders happy with tourists
The vast majority of Icelanders take a positive view of foreign tourists in their country, according to a new MMR opinion poll.
One in three Icelanders describe their view of foreign tourists as ‘very positive’. Some 80% of respondents consider visitors from abroad to be a ‘very positive’ or ‘quite positive’ thing.
Just 7.5% take a negative view (of which 1.3% are ‘very negative’), while 12.5% have no strong opinion on the subject.
Breaking down the results by age, place of residence, income and political views, it emerges that low-income households (under ISK 250,000 – approx. €1,700 – a month) have by far the most negative view of foreign visitors.
17.5% of respondents in this category described tourists as a negative thing, ten points higher than the average.
