The ship, named Drakar, is 24 m long and weighs some 50 tonnes.

An Icelandic tourism entrepreneur has purchased a Brazilian-made Viking ship and intends to sail it to Iceland for use as a tourist tour boat.

The ship was built in 2007 by a man who fell in love with Viking stories and decided to build a Viking ship on the basis of drawings obtained from a Viking museum.

Sverrir Einar Eiríksson has bought the ship in its current location of Trinidad and Tobago for an undisclosed amount.

“The idea of bringing a Viking ship to Iceland has been around for some time,” says Eiríksson. “The idea is to use to it to offer boat trips and introduce tourists to the Viking stories. This boat was found, it has been bought and all that is left is to sail it to Iceland.”
