Stranded whale shot
The stranded whale reported on by Iceland Monitor yesterday has been put down.
The animal is thought to have become stranded at least four days ago, but was still alive – and in a bad way – yesterday evening.
Under Icelandic animal-welfare legislation, the matter was the affair of the municipality in question. Advice was sought from the Environment Agency of Iceland and the animal was shot this morning, putting an end to its suffering.
The carcass is to be left where it is and nature left to deal with it.
