Spring temperatures in seas to the south and west of Iceland are at their lowest levels in almost twenty years.

The Icelandic Marine Research Institute conducts a yearly spring expedition to monitor the condition of the sea, nutrients, vegetation and krill in Icelandic waters of Iceland and has reported back on falling sea temperatures.

“The seas to the west of Iceland have fallen in temperature by around 1-1.5°C and are in most places now below the long-term average for the time of year,” reads the Institute’s website.

As reported by Iceland Monitor back in April, deviations in sea temperature can have an effect on the weather on dry land. Some meteorologists are predicting a colder than usual Icelandic summer on this basis.
