Trams and light railways will be considered for the future of Greater Reykjavik public transport, according to Dagur B. Eggertsson, Mayor of Reykjavik.
The Association of Greater Reykjavik Municipalities and the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration signed an agreement this morning pledging closer cooperation on developing public transport in the region. This agreement includes an undertaking to look into the feasibility of trams and light railway.
Eggertsson's latest weekly newsletter states that the time has come to consider more productive means of public transport, as certain routes in the bus network are at breaking point. He sees this new agreement as an important step forward, giving the Road and Coastal Administration greater involvement in future policy-making in public transport in Greater Reykjavik.
