Icelandic low-cost airline WOWair is predicting a 65% increase in passenger numbers this year and further strong growth in 2016.

Hand-luggage fee sensible

This figure emerges from an interview with founder and CEO of WOWair, Skúli Mogensen, published on turisti.is. In the interview, Mogensen rejects the suggestion that it was a mistake to introduce charges for hand luggage over 5 kg. He reaffirms that WOWair is a low-cost airline and, as such, leaves no stone unturned in the quest for providing flights at the lowest possible price. Passengers should only pay for the services they actually use and the new hand-luggage fee is just part of that policy.

easyJet not a threat

Mogensen is also sanguine about the prospect of extra competition from British low-cost carrier, easyJet. In his view, WOWair is fully competitive thanks to a cost-structure which is lower than all of its competitors’.
