1,500 places to stay in Iceland

Some 1,300 places to stay in Reykjavik and the surrounding area were advertised on the accommodation website airbnb.com in January, a 137% increase as compared to January 2014. Listings for Iceland as a whole totalled 1,500.

Data from airbnb.com show that 30% of these listings are spare rooms and 70% flats or houses. According to Airbnb's Country Manager for the Nordics and the Netherlands, Even Tangen Heggernes, the number of Icelandic users of the site as a percentage of the total population is very high, at around 5% (i.e. some 17,000 users).
