Travel writer Fatima Bhutto travelled to Iceland in winter and discovered its spiritual side which she recounts in an article in The Condé Nast Traveller. During her stay she travels across snow-covered mountains in a jeep, sees northern lights, meets the President and a high priest from the pagan religion of Ásatrú.
"Everything in Iceland has a sense of the mystical, of the hallowed. We are here at this time of year to follow the Northern Lights, aurora borealis. They are particles of dust from the sun that take 40 hours to reach Earth. "
