The first Poke restaurant in Iceland
Mathöll Höfði is very popular because of the variety of food you can get there. Mbl.is/Arnþór Birkisson
We welcome all new products and novelties in the food culture in Iceland, but now it is the first time you can get a pokebowl, and it is a hit! Pokeskálin is the first restaurant in Iceland that specializes in poke bowls. It opened in Mathöll Höfða earlier this month, but the owners of the restaurant also run Pastagerðin in two locations; in Grandi Mathöll and in Mathöll Höfði .
A pokebowl is a fusion of sushi and salad where the ingredients are fresh. The origins of poke is Hawaii and the word means to slice or to cut, and refers to slicing raw marinated fish, most often tuna, which is then put on top of some rice and served with vegetables and some kind of dressing. You could say it is the next level sushi, if you will. The Pokebowl in Iceland offers bowls with chicken, beef, salmon, tiger shrimps or tofu, to name a few. We highly recommend trying it out and your palate is going to love it. The restaurant also offers baby sized bowls, so the whole family can go on an outing and on their website you can find family offers.
