Owners of the Dead Rabbit in Iceland, an Irish pub set to open next month, have decided to change its name to the Drunk Rabbit.  The New York located Dead Rabbit pub had previously threatened legal action accusing the Reykjavik pub of copying the concept.

However, speaking to mbl.is, pub owners Ómar Ingimarsson and Andrés Björnsson deny that the law suit threat had anything to do with the name change.

“They say that imitation is the best flattery,” said New York's Dead Rabbit owner Sean Muldoon in an interview with The New York Daily News , “but the problem is I don’t think this is going to be a good imitation; I think it’s going to be a bad imitation.”

The Dead Rabbit in New York has been selected several times as one of the best bars in the city.

Speaking to mbl.is, Ingimarsson and Björnsson, who previously owned the Brooklyn Bar which is now being transformed into the Irish pub, admit to having spent many hours and a lot of money at the Dead Rabbit in New York.

"Even if they had sued us they would never have won the case," he says and adds that they simply decided to build their own story with a new name. Therefore, a Drunk Rabbit will see teh day of light in Austurstræti, Reykjavik, at the beginnng of March.
