A new album from Sycamore Tree
The duo Sycamore Tree released a new album today called Colors, which is their second album. In the band are Gunni Hilmars and Ágústa Eva Erlendsdóttir, and the album has been in the works for three years.
"Making an album like Colors is quite a long process. It always starts with me and Ágústa Eva sitting down and figuring out the songs. Then there is a long and fragile process where many people are involved in the arrangements. There are many artists involved that have expert knowledge on all kinds of details that are vitally important," says Gunni.
He says that they enter a new world on the new album.
"The world we have created is visual, beautiful and melancholic and we flirt a little bit with electronical music and sometimes also with pop music, or what we like to call Sycapop, which is a sugarcoated version of Sycamore Tree," he says laughingly.
From two different fields
Ágústa Eva and Gunni see each album as a unique project.
"Each album is one idea, one musical world. We have a lot of songs already that we find a home for, frame it in such a way that it fits this world," says Gunni and explains that perhaps their background explains the way they approach their music.
"I come from the design world and Ágústa Eva from the theatre. That is probably why we have so much fun creating worlds or scenes from each song or for the whole album," he says.
The new album Colors has 11 songs.
"Our new album is in some ways big and we really pay attention to each detail. The scenes are beautiful, dreamy and visual and we hope it will be easy for the listener to go on their own journey while listening to the album. The world is such an adventure and both simple and strong at the same time."
„Verkið er veglegt og mikið nostrað við smáatriði og sviðsmyndin falleg, dreymandi og mjög myndræn þar sem við vonum að það verði auðvelt fyrir hlustandann að fara í ferðalag um heimi og geima á meðan hlustað er. Heimurinn er ævintýralegur og bæði einfaldur og sterkur í senn.
"We were certain from the outset that we would not release the songs one by one, but rather have the whole album enter the scene. Because to us, all the songs make up the whole that is this world. It starts with the title track Colors and ends with the track Howl, which might be an indication of what lies in store with Sycamore Tree on its next venture. What kind of world will we create next time? It will be a surprise."
Last night Ágústa Eva and Gunni had a concert in Fríkirkjan where they played songs from the new album for the first time in public.
