Second Largest Film Project Ever in Iceland
Filming of the Netflix espionage action thriller Heart of Stone will soon be taking place in Iceland, Morgunblaðið reports. The film is directed by Tom Harper.
“This is one of those large projects in which TrueNorth specializes taking care of,” states Leifur B. Dagfinnsson, producer at TrueNorth, a production and service company for the film and television industry. “The publicity this movie will bring for Reykjavík and Iceland will be enormous, since the part filmed here takes place in Iceland,” he adds.
Never before has the filming of a movie in Reykjavík been this extensive. From April 2 until April 5, certain roads will have to be closed. Filming will not be limited to the capital region, but no information has been released regarding precise locations.
Preparations for filming have been ongoing since last summer, and TrueNorth has closely cooperated with the City of Reykjavík, the Road Administration, the police, and Harpa Concert Hall.
A film crew of 600 people, in addition to 300-400 extras, will take part in the project. “This comes close to the scale of the filming of Flags of Our Fathers , the largest film project ever in Iceland, in which 1,000 people participated,” Leifur states.
Some of the actors are expected to come to Iceland from abroad. The film stars Israeli actress Gal Gadot, who, along with her husband, is among the film’s producers. Among the cast are Jamie Dornan, Alia Bhatt and Sophie Okonedo.
Heart of Stone is the fourth large foreign film project serviced by TrueNorth in Iceland this year. The other three are the TV series The Retreat , the TV series Washington Black , and an unnamed Marvel-Hero thriller.
