The music festival Iceland Airwaves , which had been scheduled for early November, has been postponed until next year, mbl.is reports. This is the second year in a row that the festival is postponed. Organizers state that current limits on the number of people allowed to gather, due to COVID-19, make holding the event impossible.

The new dates for the festival will be Wednesday, November 2 through Saturday November 5, 2022.

“The latest regulations imposed by authorities limit the number of people in attendance in each area…to 500 people; guests must be in numbered seats, must not face one another, must wear face masks until seated, and must provide the results of a rapid test taken no more than 48 hours prior to the start of an event,” a statement from Sena Live, the organizer of the event, reads.

The statement goes on to say that the organizers believe it could have been possible to hold the festival in a safe manner, but that authorities disagree with that.

Those who hold a ticket for 2021 and  wish to attend Iceland Airwaves 2022 do not need to do anything, since their ticket for 2021 will still be valid. Those who wish to get a refund are asked to send an email to info@tix.is by Friday, September 17.

The organizers encourage ticket holders to keep their tickets and thereby support Icelandic music.
