If you're in the mood for inspiration and art, head to Seyðisfjörður this weekend. That's where the annual LungA Festival takes place - and ends with a day of art, concerts, good food and partying.

Normally, only 700 inhabitants live in the remote town by the fjord where the famous LungA art school is located. But whenever the art and music festival takes place, young people from all corners of the country make a pilgrimage to the East Fjords, flooding the pretty little town. It's an intimate art festival where creativity and culture are celebrated with workshops and several smaller events.

"The festival has made a name for itself because of its particularly familiar atmosphere and the high quality of the workshops. Furthermore it brings joy, self realization, new friends, lovers and good memories to those who visit" - the organizers promise. "LungA is above all a festival with the purpose of summoning people in creation and to strengthen awareness and knowledge about art and culture."

Since wednesday there have been several three-day-long workshops like painting or movement classes held by respected artists, such as Laura Tack, a Belgian painter and sound artist, living in Seyðisfjörður, who showed the young artists how to build a painting - and that starts first by building the frame out of wood yourself. Furthermore, Margrét Bjarnadóttir offered a workshop on "New Movement." She is a multidisciplinary artist working in the fields of dance, performance, visual arts and writing. Margrét choreographed shows for Björk.

Of course, the city doesn't have enough guesthouses, so the participants slept on mattresses in the kindergarten - which strengthens the sense of community. The beauty of the workshops is that you have the freedom to be who you are and find your form of expression: through very individual movements, colors, shapes and sounds. Therefore LungA is a good festival for those who are thinking of further art studying. In the evenings there has been karaoke, performances or concerts in the bars of the city.

On Saturday the results of the participants will be exhibited. There will also be a day-long-program (open for everybody) and a big closing party with a concert (limited numbers of tickets) where acts like GusGus and Vök will perform. Stay tuned for further anouncements and the current program on the festival's social media.
