The first ever RIFF Winter Fest, presented by the Reykjavík International Film Festival, opens today and runs through December 20. This is a virtual cinematic showcase for the holiday season, presenting a sneak peek of this year’s European Film Awards selection.

During this time, RIFF brings you six feature films from this year’s European Film Awards selection.

The selection “pays homage to this prestigious European Awards and the best of our European talent currently making waves in the international panorama,” a press release states.

Since 1988, the European Film Academy has celebrated the European Film Awards annually by recognizing excellence in European cinematic achievements. The awards ceremony takes place in Berlin every other year, and every other year it travels.

Reykjavík was to be the 2020 host city, but plans changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, postponing the Reykjavík event by two years.

The 2020 celebration continues, albeit in a virtual format. RIFF offers you to enjoy watching from your home a selection of films nominated for this prestigious European recognition.

Tickets need to be reserved, because their number is limited.

The following films will be streamed:

Martin Eden, by Pietro Marcello Trailer

Instinct, by Halina Reijn Trailer

Echo by Rúnar Rúnarsson Trailer This is the only Icelandic entry in the EFA 2020 selection.
