Icelandic Pop Stars Sing ‘Let’s Travel Indoors’ - Video
A group of nationally known Icelandic musicians released a music video last night, which became an instant success. The melody is by José Feliciano, and the song used to be a popular one in Iceland decades ago under the name “Góða ferð,” or Bon Voyage, performed by the band BG og Ingibjörg.
The new video is a collaboration between Leifur Geir Hafsteinsson and musician Halldór Gunnar Pálsson.
This time, the lyrics are different, written by Leifur Geir Hafsteinsson, and the name of the song is “Ferðumst innanhúss,” or Let’s Travel Indoors. The timing of the release is perfect, since health authorities have been asking the nation not to travel over Easter to minimize the risk of traffic accidents and calls to rescue teams during a time when hospitals strive to keep up with the increased work load created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new lyrics are humorous, suggesting exciting things to do indoors, such as camping out in the garage, taking a bubble bath, and creating a home spa.
One by one, the pop stars pop up on the screen, each recording in their own home, until, all of a sudden, the surprise guests appear, stealing the scene.
First among them is Chief Epidemiologist Þórólfur Guðnason, who sings about the importance of fighting the war on COVID-19. At this point, Director of Health Alma Möller joins the song, singing that in order to ensure public health and a peace of mind, we all must obey Víðir (Chief Superintendent Víðir Reynisson) and travel indoors.
No sooner has she sung these words than Víðir, who has repeatedly explained to the nation the importance of staying home over Easter, appears on the screen and joins the others in singing (roughly translated, so you can sing along):
“Bon voyage, bon voyage, bon voyage!
This experience is certainly unique.
Forget the risky tours. The chance is really yours.
This Easter, let us navigate indoors.”
