Jonas Mekas is this year's guest of honour at Reykjavik International Film Festival
RIFF's guest of honour this year is Lithuanian American filmmaker, artist and poet Jonas Mekas. Known as the godfather of American avant-garde cinema, Mekas worked closely with legendary artists such as Andy Warhol, Salvador Dalí & John Lennon.
Mekas was a part of the incredibly influential New York art scene in the 1970’s and frequented Studio 54. He is known for his intimate diary films, a form he invented, and many iconic people have made appearances in his films, including Jackie Kennedy, Allen Ginsberg, Marina Abramovic and Björk.
RIFF takes place between September 27th and October 7th this year. For the full programme of screenings and events see HERE.
