Registrations for the Íslandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon taking place on August 18th now amount to over nine thousand people including three thousand foreign participants.

The marathon takes place on the same day as Reykjavik Culture Night, a day of events and festivities in the capital that culminates in a fireworks display by the harbour.

The organisers of the marathon expect the total number of participants to be around 15.000.

Over 100 million Icelandic krona were collected last year in the marathon towards a variety to charities.

In recent years, the 10 km distance is the most popular by participants. Visitors to Reykjavik should take note that the city centre will experience closures during the morning of August 18th due to the marathon.
