Icelandic singer to perform elf-song on Japanese TV

Icelandic actress Bergljót Arnalds has been brought in by Japanese state TV company NHK to perform a self-composed song on a new programme on Iceland.

Bergljót composed the song herself and set the music to the words of a prayer by the elf-woman Tamína. It will be performed on a Japanese TV programme looking into various aspects of Iceland life, such as New Year’s Eve celebrations and the work of Icelandic search and rescue teams.

A Japanese film crew came to Iceland towards the end of last year to film the piece here, and the first shots were taken in the lava field aroundKrýsuvík, in South-West Iceland.

The programme will be broadcast on NHK in February and is expected to attract up to 10 million viewers.
