Illustrates for The Diary of a Teenage Girl
Brooklyn-based Icelander Sara Gunnarsdóttir is responsible for the illustrations in film The Diary of a Teenage Girl, premiered at the Stockfish Film Festival next month. She's also working on an illustrated documentary with director Árni Sveinsson and Rams-producer Grímar Jónsson.
The Diary of a Teenage Girl, starring Kristen Wiig, Alexander Skarsgård and Bel Powley has received rave reviews in the US and it's also the opening film for the Stockfish festival which takes place in Bíó Paradís in Reykjavik between February 18th- February 28th.
Gunnarsdóttir, who grew up in Hafnarfjörður graduated in fine arts from the Iceland Academy of Arts in 2005 and then continued her studies at the CalArts University in California in experminental animation. "My methods are quite old fashioned. I still work on paper, which I then scan in and colour using photoshop and After Effects. "
She got in touch with director Marielle Heller for the film through a girl in her class. "She thought I was perfect fro the job and our collaboration went really well."
The Diary of a Teenage Girl is set in San Francisco in the seventies and tells the story of 15 year old Minnie Goetz who wants to become an illustrator. The film is based on a comic by Phoebe Gloeckner.
